After graduating from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, Mildred turned a highschool teacher in Wentzville, Missouri. There she met and married Wayne Charles Gardner, the college principal. They were married 55 fantastic years. Before retiring to Hendersonville, North Carolina, Wayne and Mildred lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Jackson, Michigan. Mildred was a member of P.E.O. chapters in Jackson, Michigan and Hendersonville, North Carolina.
